Strand at Crystal Cove
This hillside site with ocean views called for upscale view oriented Spanish-Colonial style villas that maximized ideas of privacy with a detached feel. Building and streets throughout the site were carefully positioned and terraced in a three-dimensional manner accounting for topography and views. By designing the homes simultaneously, each plan achieves privacy and useful outdoor spaces. By connecting the units at the front garage portion only, attached zoning requirements were met and the buyer demands for detached walls and light on all sides makes this project unique to conventional attached housing. In addition, by configuring the homes with two outdoor spaces, one rear yard to views and one courtyard protected from cool winds, a variety of indoor/outdoor living opportunities exist. Finally extensive care was given to exterior massing and authentic detailing in wood, iron, and stenciling to give a more timeless and authentic solution.
